Since I had heard a lot about Kuldhara it was always in my bucket list and since I had known that as a haunted place I wanted to explore it alone!

As it was COVID time there were hardly any other travelers/tourists there and it was even more desolate. Only a couple of police officers were there at the entrance. I bought the ticket and went in.

There is a long road and on both sides of the road, there are ruins of houses that were once believed to belong to a very advanced civilization. There are multiple stories telling why the place was abandoned and the one I heard from the locals is that around 300 years ago the village was home to Paliwal Brahmins. The community of Paliwal Brahmins was an advance community with well educated, intelligent and rich people who built the village from scratch. Salim Singh who was the state prime minister at that time wanted to marry daughter of one of the Brahmins and threatened to kidnap her if they didn’t agree with their union. But the family did not agree, and thus all the Brahmins united and they all left the village with all their belongings and vanished in thin air.

Some say they all committed a mass suicide, some people told me that each one of them went to a different country in different direction and vowed to never contact each other so nobody could trace them. (Sounded a lot like the gang’s plan in Money Heist after heist of the Royal Mint of Spain😉).

Another story I heard was that Paliwal brahmins were very rich and they did not leave any of their wealth behind so the money/jewels/treasure is possibly buried somewhere even till today and nobody could find it.

It is believed that the Paliwal Brahmins put a curse on Kuldhara that no one will ever be able to settle in that place in future. It is said that many people/communities tried to settle in Kuldhara after the Brahmins’ departure but then some natural calamity would strike and the people either died or they were forced to leave. It is also said that people who have tried to stay there at night have had paranormal experiences. The place is not open after evening to visitors.

I walked alone on the road and through the ruins till the last block. The walls of the structures seemed to have experienced multiple earthquakes. I walked inside the ruined blocks without roofs, touched the crumbling walls of the ruins and spent some time standing there just to feel the energy of the place. I went inside the temple and one building where I was welcomed by an army of bats.

Did I have any supernatural experience? No. But there was certainly a different eerie energy in that place which I could feel. I couldn’t help but think that there must be some truth to the tales and something significant must have happened in that place in the past. Anything that happens at a place leaves certain vibrations which can be felt for years.

It was definitely worth the visit, and I would recommend that you travel to Kuldhara solo if you want to have a memorable experience.
